Yesterday was our ninth anniversary. And in our usual practical and unsentimental fashion, we didn’t do a whole lot to acknowledge the fact unless you call actually going out to eat sans Sam a big deal. And given that we do this about twice a year, I think it actually does qualify as a big deal.
We were discussing the traditional gifts for wedding anniversaries and of course, neither of us knew this. Google provides the answer:
Ninth: Traditional: Pottery (China) Modern: Leather goods
Gee, we missed out on both the traditional and modern since gifts weren’t in evidence this year or indeed, most years. Leather goods at least have the potential to be fun but pottery? I imagine its fun to destroy but we really don’t have space for another set of dishes.
And thinking ahead:
Tenth: Traditional: Tin, Aluminum Modern: Diamonds
Maybe we should exchange gifts next year…..
I don’t have any wedding pictures scanned in so I can’t post them but I do have to say that these nine years have both flown and dragged but I can’t imagine spending them with anyone else. Thank you Ben for nine good years!

Congrats. I'd say going out to eat without Sam was definatly a celebration. We always forget our anniversary too.
I can always remember how long you and Ben have been married by thinking about how old Lukas is. Unfortunatly, Chip and I have no such memory aid. Whenever someone asks us how long we've been married, we kind of scratch our heads and look puzzled, then say, "I dunno, 12, 13 years?"
Since I kind of went from one husband to another, when someone asks how long I've been married I want to reply, "In total, or just this time?" but it seems horribly politically incorrect. I think I could get credit for the whole 17 years of marriage, not just the current 13. Haven't I been slaving away the entire time?! I want credit for the duration. ;-)
Take credit for the entire time and don't even mention that it was with two different marriages. Who is going to know any different?
