Conversation I never thought I'd have

I was getting ready to change Sam's diaper today and as I put him down on the floor he saw Kirby.

Sam: See Dibby's penis!

Kirby goes and lies down.

Sam: Want see Dibby's penis!

Anne: Kirby's lying down. He doesn't want to show you his penis.

Sam: Want see Dibby's penis.

Anne: Kirby is lying down. He doesn't want to how you his penis. Would you want to show him your penis?

Sam: Dibby see Sam's penis.

And so on.

After we were done with the diaper change, he managed to rouse Kirby and what do you think he did? Yup, went to check it out. But I didn't get the camera fast enough so I only got one picture and it was as he was getting back up from the task at hand. He lost interest quickly.

In other Sam-related news, it appears that he's finally done nursing. I thought it was going to be bittersweet when he was done and it is but mostly I'm relieved. I've been over it for a long time so each time he nursed (only once a day at bedtime) I'd talk about how some day he wouldn't want to nurse any longer and that would be fine. Three nights ago when I was talking about it and he stopped nursing, laid down next to me and settled in to get ready to sleep. Hasn't asked for it since. My little boy is growing up.

Pretty funny. To Sam, "penis" has no more significance than "belly button". lol. You'd be suprised the conversations you can have about that particular body part with a 2-3 year old.

Abbie was insistent all last year that one of her girl classmates, Kayla, had a penis.

And, I recall when Lukas was somewhere between 2 and 3, calling to me from the bathtub, "Mama, there's a bone in my penis!"
