I have a dream!

That my kid will skate unassisted! Happy MLK Day. We celebrated it by going ice skating; doesn't everyone? Celebrating diversity through physical activity may be untraditional but it was fun. And this time not only did I bring the camera but Judyboo came to watch Sam skate and took some pictures of the two of us out there on the ice. As you can see, Sammyboo (actually, I've taken to calling him Boo lately) is having a great time with his milk crates and purple bucket. The buckets are used to collect all the little toys and balls the teacher tosses on the ice to motivate the kids to let go of the crates and reach for the toys. Sam really didn't need that motivation but he did enjoy seeing the oddball things that were tossed on the ice. There were several times where he let go of the crate and just stood on the ice unassisted. Not only that, there was one spectacular fall that Judy just missed getting on camera...and Boo just got up and kept on going. He was able to get up by himself on more than one occasion and for me, that's a great thing since helping him stay upright can be a bit of a back-breaking endeavor.

While Ben continues to be unenthusiastic about the skating since he himself can't really skate, Sam really seems to enjoy it. I'm hoping he won't remember learning to skate, that it'll just be something he's always been able to do. I learned when I was little and mainly remember going skating with my siblings and Dad. Then we played hockey with the neighbor kids on the frozen puddles behind the house.

So check out the last picture...doesn't it look as though he's speeding along? Pretend that you don't notice that the cone is also fuzzy, would you? But you can see the movement of his little feet. He's got style!

oh, look at those little bitty skates! He's so cute...and happy! Does he scream when you make him leave?

Nope. I think it wears him out enough right now that he doesn't have a problem with it. Of course at the end we helped clean up and he thought that was really cool because we made a train of milkcrates and he pushed 8 of them at the same time. Very cool for a little dude.
