Did you know we went to NJ?

Shall we talk about the journey first? Let's just say that Sam isn't much of a traveler. Instead of his usual "all done car" he made sure to do lots of squawking. And we left in the evening in hopes that he'd go to sleep but of course he didn't sleep until well after his nornal bedtime and he woke up frequently to do more squawking. I don't think this kid is cut out for car travel. The way home? A total of 40 minutes of sleep. And Ben taught Sam to say "I'm bored!" and they had a competition where each would yell out "I'm a Zisser Zasser ZUZ!"* at the top of their lungs. Much eating was done by all. I'm still digging pretzel and cracker pieces out of Sam's carseat.

But in NJ we got to see my sister and her family who had a much longer drive from Arkansas. I have to say that I was quite disappointed that they didn't have any good Arkansas stories....I was hoping for some real southern zingers but alas, it appears that either they're all missing the story-telling gene or not much of interest is happening down there.

I think Lisa was somewhat taken aback by Sam's activity level but he was definitely in high gear for at least part of the visit. One morning we went swimming in the "sleepy house" pool. Sam loved it! He spent the entire time jumping in the pool while saying "I do it!" and then getting somewhat upset when I wouldn't let him just jump willy nilly into the pool by himself. Ben thought I should have let him flail around for 10 seconds or so just to make a point but I find it hard to teach Sam fear. Oh, and he was so excited that he kept running. On the wet tile. So what do you think happened? Yup, flat on his back and more than once! You'd think he'd learn but no, it's much too exciting to slow down and walk when there is jumping to be done.

He continued the juming theme a bit later in the room when he and Abbie were jumping on the bed. Well, Sam was doing most of the jumping with Abbie joining in every now and then or else saying "Sammie jumped on me!"

We also went to see the "aminals at the park" while we were there. We got a few pictures of course. Check out Sam climbing up the fence. I think he should have been on the other side of the fence. And aren't those some weird looking donkies back there?

We ate Thai food, hung around, chatted, fought Sam for naps and bedtime, wandered around, and generally did very little. It was nice. Except for the fighting Sam for naps and bedtime. Where is his off switch anyway?

And a couple more cousin pictures. And no, I really don't know why Lukas has the target on his forehead...maybe he's a walking ad for Target.

Overall, a nice break from routine. But once again, I failed to convince my sister and her family to move to Vermont...

No doubt about it, that kid is a pistol! lol I'd been warned of Sam's activity level, but didn't really see it in full swing until we visited at the hotel. The bouncing on the bed was done at a frantic pace, and the bed was surrounded by many pieces of furniture with sharp corners. I kept envisioning horrible injuries if he were to fall off the bed, and there were some near misses.

The rest of the trip Sam was more low key though. What a cutie. I'd forgotten how fun it is when kids start talking.

Definitely lots of sharp corners and edges. He likes to live on the edge, that's for sure. Taking any bets when he'll next get stitches? He was working on it today when he fell down 4 steps. Big red welt in the middle of his forehea. Looks as though we're beating him.
