Sam got a haircut yesterday. And no, I haven’t taken a picture. Yet. Don’t worry, it’ll happen before too long.
He’s been telling everyone “I need a haircut!” for days and yes, he did need one if he wanted to be able to see. But we both like the way it looks when it’s long so we didn’t rush out to get it cut until we were afraid that his hair was contributing to his seeming lack of coordination as evidenced by the increasing number of small bruises on his legs and back.
Off we went to the Hairy Bear, a shop that specializes in kids haircuts. He was dazzled by the place. Picture this from a kiddy point of view: the room is filled with toys, the walls covered in mirrors but the biggest most exciting thing is that the chairs are not chairs! They’re carousel horses, pink Cadillacs, jeeps, generic cars, and, oh so excitingly, motorcycles! After several test rides he decided that he was going to sit on the motorcycle for his haircut. Now he’s telling everyone that he got his haircut on a motorcycle which seems like a flight of fancy on his part. They also supplied him with a pink balloon (he chose the color) on his way out. Can it get better than this?
Oh, and we had parent/teacher conferences yesterday. I’m amused they begin at the daycare level. We got to hear mostly good things about Sam. Very coordinated for his age (hee - that was even before the haircut and he definitely didn’t get that from me), smart (of course), good vocabulary, stubborn (I’m sure that’s from Ben), and active. His biggest negative was that he’s hugging some of his peers too hard and knocking them over. He’s just about the biggest kid in the class so the other kids don’t really stand a chance if he’s in the mood to give them a hug.

I would really love to see a picture of the inside of that place. What a spectacular marketing idea!
So where is the Hairy Bear? I have been looking for a new hair stylest for a year, and you've been holding out on me!
Hairy Bear is in front of Higher Ground although I would have to say that Sam's "stylist" wasn't the cheeriest thing out there. If you're not looking for a chatty one, go for it. You can sit on the horsie
