I'm a slave driver

Today I forced my wee small dude to hike up a mountain. Granted it wasn't a huge mountain but some people (Lisa TV if I must name names) think Mt. Philo is a miserable and difficult mountain. And I made my two year old march up to the top. Overall, he did pretty well. He started strong and walked the first 2/3 of the way up without protest and managed to get excited about the huge rocks and the fallen logs along the way but after awhile, the mud and the general sameness began to get to him and he wanted me to carry him. I picked him up a couple of times but I carried him very little because of course my main objective here was to completely wear him out. When we finally got to the top, he was totally and completely excited by the prospect of eating lunch and the transformation by way of food was amazing. He ran part of the way down the mountain but I admit that rather than taking the path down, we took the road. The slippery mud would have been a bit much for him. Again, near the end he was whiny and wanted to be carried so I picked him up for short bits here and there but overall, he did great!

And he napped like a champ when we got home, that's for sure.

Yeah, Beth, if you're reading this, I think Philo is pure hell compared to the fun hike that Camel's Hump is. I only climb Philo because Anne makes me, er uh, challenges me to do it. Same diff. It's unrelentingly steep. Although CH is longer, it's just not so dang hard.

My fave of faves remains Snake. That view is so Vermont I can hardly stand it. One of my favorite places to sit down and enjoy a nice candy bar.

Kudos to Sam for making it! I think my first time up, I barely made it without bawling.

I take draconian measures to wear out this boy, don't I? Hee! And Lisa, what did your brother say about Philo? And what do you think he'll say about it the next time he's here, especially now that he's in shape?

And Snake is ok but it's always really muddy (and has lots of mosquitos) and it's a much longer drive. Give me Philo any day.
