The place where Sam goes to daycare really keeps the kids busy. They have a sensory table full of dyed soapy water or cornmeal or beans or sand or whatever they can think of and change that thing every day. They teach them games, they sing songs and read books. They even get the kids to take turns sometimes. But every now and then I wonder if they’re totally off the deep end. This week they took about 8 two year olds to a sugarhouse. First off, just think of the time it would take to strap 8 carseats in the van. Add in the time it takes to strap in 8 kids. I imagine the drive would be fine since the kids would probably be in awe of being with so many other kids in the van; and since they are all firmly strapped in place, there is limited potential for roughhousing, slapping, hitting, etc.
But think of the potential chaos when you take those 8 kids out of the van at a place with animal and a steaming hot syrup boiler. Sam came home in one piece and I didn’t hear any horror stories so I assume it all went smoothly. I asked him about it that evening.
Me: What did you see at the sugarhouse
Sam: Sheeps!
Me: What else did you see?
Sam: Sheeps!
Me: Did you taste the maple syrup?
Sam: AhAHah (his word for yes although he will say yes if I insist)
Me: What did it taste like?
Sam: Pancakes.
A man of few words. I assume he had fun while he was there but I’ll never know for sure.
I may have to tag along with them on one of their field trips just so I can see how they keep order. Sam has been challenging on his own lately as he seems to be honing his inborn stubborness much to my chagrin.
