Sam's life o' crime

We’ve been having a bit of trouble with our doors locking behind us when we go outside. I suspect it’s related to a very small Boo who is very interested in all things doors, primarily as access to the very desirable outdoors. Traditionally, Ben and I have locked the deadbolts but haven’t bothered with the useless little locks on the doorknobs. Enter Sam who loves to play with the little useless locks and you know what’s happening here.

The other day Ben took Sam outside and yes, locked himself out of the house. After breaking the doorknob to the garage in an attempt to get to the house key he had stashed, he decided to take advantage of Boo’s escapee tendencies by using a nail to pry the screen out of the window, lift the boy up into the house and then send him to open the door.

Yesterday I took the trash out and as usual, shut the door to keep the cats in the house and yup, locked out. Sam was in the house and I had to ask him to let me in. He did it happily but it isn’t going to take him long to figure out that he can just leave us locked out and do all the things we won’t let him ordinarily do. It would be an orgy of popsicles, funny-looking TV, and juice combined with dumping every drawer in the house and sticking Band-Aids on every inch of his body.

It’s definitely time to hide a key.

You gotta let him have his moment of locking you out for a while, so you can take pictures of the wreckage and the bandaid-covered Sam when he finally lets you back in!
