We were having a discussion about having one of the neighbor boys mow our lawn. The adults on the street were trying to decide what a 10-year-old boy should be paid for mowing and in the end, the suggested fee was $20 per lawn if he provides the mower.
In the past I've mentioned babysitting rates around here are somewhere around $8/hr. Why is it that the one hour of mowing (about how long it takes to mow our lawn) is worth $20 and one hour of babysitting is worth way less than half that? Women earn what, $0.76 for every dollar a man makes? In this case, it's even worse. I never realized it started so young. If I had a daughter I'd definitely be suggesting she start her own lawn mowing service instead of bothering with babysitting.
Shameful.

unless it is a huge lawn, i'd never pay anyone $20....i have about an acre of grass, and do it myself.....just doesn't seem worth $20.
I agree it's not worth it but hey, I'm sick of mowing so maybe it IS worth it sometimes....when can Sam mow anyway? LOL
well...mine are 18 and almost 16, no one is offering to mow for me yet...so i figure you have several years to go...
I bet if you paid $20 an hour for someone to babysit Sam, your life would change dramatically!
Personally, I think mowing a lawn is easier than watching a 2 year old, but now that I think about it, I've never actually done either one.
