We’re at the beginning of a change in season around here and I finally sucked it up and started to go through Sam’s clothes to see what still fits him from his not-very-extensive spring wardrobe. He isn’t growing quite as fast as he was so it’s possible that he can wear some of these clothes although most of his 2T pants are appropriate for the next flood and he can daintily air his wrists in what were previously known as long sleeved shirts. Not that he cooperates with the process; for the most part he runs away from me saying “I’m scared of that xyz” because you know those shirts, sweaters, and pants are very very dangerous. I used reverse psychology to get him to smile while trying on this coat that was Ben's as a child. "You better not smile and you absolutely can't laugh!"
Of course the removal of said clothing leaves a big gap in his dresser drawers (deceptive because for the most part he dresses out of the clean clothes I lazily leave in a laundry basket in the laundry room so the drawers are nearly always rather sparse) that need to be filled with fall and winter clothing. In theory it should be somewhat fun to fill the void although I find I have very little desire to shop and even less desire to shop with Sam. What about mail order clothing? Perhaps we should dress him in stuff like this suit so he could be the friendly neighborhood preschool mafia baby. Or maybe he needs a pair of $80 handsewn distressed jeans? Or a $95 embroidered bomber jacket and that's on sale - it was originally $136?
Perhaps it’s a good thing we missed this one when he was small enough to wear it. Can you imagine? $375 for the set.
Instead of all these rather interesting options we seek garage sale chic. This weekend we got the greatest pair of rain boots ever for just $0.50. He's wearing them in this picture but it's hard to tell that the boots are the head of a duck and the front part is a beak. And can anyone please explain why 90% of the time he puts his shoes on the wrong foot? I know the boots are not a $375 sweater and blanket set but they seem to make him quite happy.
Now, I should do the same for my own wardrobe. The depressing thing is that I’m NOT supposed to be outgrowing last years clothing.

Great photos!
We should definitely drive out into the "country" and look for some yard sales this fall, once the leaves start to turn. They ARE going to turn this year, aren't they? We've been cheated out of a real fall too many times now!
yes! yardsales are the way to go. And...the great thing about yardsales, besides the price tags, is that any yardsale that has clothes for Sam's age will also have toys. So, you can send Sam to wreck havoc with the toys while you look for clothes!!
