Kid break being enjoyed

Oh my, that kid is driving me nuts today. He’s great as long as I’m not trying to do anything. If I’m paying the least amount of attention to him he’s happy as a clam and destroying everything in sight. When I’m trying to do something that doesn’t include him such as, oh, cleaning the bathtub, he’s everywhere making it a more miserable experience than it already is. He can’t seem to keep his hands out of things so we had many many hand washings in a matter of minutes. Yeah, I know that I should find ways to distract him from what I’m doing but his idea of distraction is digging in the litterbox and the potential downside on that is very high.

This morning we went grocery shopping where he repeatedly said “I want that” and said no. Ah, such a positive and reaffirming time together. After that we were going to go get his hair cut but he wouldn’t get in the car and I decided I didn’t care enough to fight with him about it so we went and watched the street dept dudes put in a new streetlight. When we got home he started whining about wanting to get his hair cut and it took just about every ounce of resolve in my body not to scream “But you wouldn’t go earlier and we’re not going now!” but scream I did not. He whined until naptime. He whined while I did laundry. He whined while I vacuumed. He whined while I picked things up and put things away. He whined while I got him ready for his nap.

Silence, oh lovely silence.

And his morning barf the other day? Perfectly fine by dinner time. I’m amazed at his powers of recuperation; they’re nearly as good as his powers of driving me insane.

When Sam is whining, wouldn't that be an excellent time for vacuuming? Really, really, LOUD vacuuming?!

You poor thing - I'd MUCH rather be sitting here struggling with a supreme court brief. Truly!

I'm sorry you're having a rough day. I'm glad to know that you're having the kind of experience I imagine I would have if I had a child. I'm not happy about it, but it's a relief of sorts (if that makes sense).

I'm really glad he's feeling better.

Phyllis you're scaring me!

Kimberly, anyone who ever claims that every day with a kid is a wonderful thing is LYING THROUGH THEIR TEETH. Sam's been doing this whining thing for about 2 weeks and I'm thinking that I need a roll of duct tape for his mouth. Gack!
