All Hallows' Day planning

With fall in its full glory around here we've been trying to get into the spirit of things. While we've been avoiding the corn maze because I'm afraid that Sam will decide that going through the stalks is more fun than following the trails we've been doing other things. Last weekend we picked up a "punkin" for Sam that he immediately wanted to carve and that I think it take a tumble down the front steps well before the frightening day. We've also been reading books about joys of Halloween.

After days and days of saying he doesn’t want to dress up for Halloween, Sam announced that he wants to be a dragon so I’m looking for costume ideas. I’d like a semi-homemade costume for him rather than buying a generic one. Does he need to be a fire-breathing dragon? Are light green footie pajamas an appropriate starting point for a dragon? We’ve got here that are almost too small for him. I wonder if we can make a fire-breathing dragon hat so he’s looking out the throat of the dragon of if that would be so heavy and unbalanced that it tips him over or does a “flippety doodle”*

Oh looky here! A pattern for making a costume from cardboard and various other semi-household objects. Does anyone want to come over and be crafty with me? I’m sure we could come up with something similar but maybe not quite so big headed. Hey, this could be fun!

*Sam’s term for things that can flip around such as airplanes in the sky or himself when he makes a particularly impressive tumble.
