I just snapped

It's a miserable cold, rain, windy morning with more cold, rain, wind and snow in the forecast. And this is the second time I've written this damn post because blogger ate my firs one and I was stupid enough to not have copied it before I tried to publish it so that just improve my mood immensely. Or not. Definitely not.

Sam woke up this morning and declared that he wanted to wear "Big Boy Underpants" and so it was done. Except with lots of pee on the floor. I need more than a two week break between dog pee and kid pee so Sam is back in a diaper for the time being.

He also managed to spill a cup of coffee all over the coffee table in the living room. I'm irritated with Sam for spilling it but I'm more irritated with Ben because he always finds it necessary to eat and drink in the living room thereby giving Sam the opportunity. I tried to put a "No eating or drinking in the living room" policy when Sam was little but BEN would not comply which made it pretty much impossible to enforce.

About two years ago Sam managed to split his upper lip (two stitches, no anesthesia) on the edge of the coffee table so it's been covered with fabric, plastic, and batting as a stitches prevention program. After two years this way I was suspect of the integrity of the plastic and with the sheer volume of coffee spilled (no injuries or I'd have mentioned those already) I was afraid the coffee had seeped under the plastic and would destroy the wood. With my handy dandy pliers that I had to have Ben find for me because he has managed to hide every damn tool I might ever need (I used to have my own tool stash when we got married but he's managed to appropriate everything except the box and some miscellaneous hardware I should probably throw out) I removed the staples to discover that the table was fine. But as soon as I flipped it over, Sam was building towers on it with his heavy wooden blocks. I suspect that there will be many scratches and gashes in the table top within a week.

I had one seemingly simple task for this morning and that was writing an email to the manufacturer of our kitchen cabinets so they could identify a replacement hinge for our corner cabinet. I needed to attach some pictures of the cabinets and hinge and didn’t expect a problem but of course since I was already grumpy the program gave me trouble. It wouldn’t let me rename the files from the useless number system to a descriptive title. It kept going back to the original useless name. In the midst of this frustration Sam and Ben were both in here talking at me and talking at me and talking at me until I finally just turned to them and told them to be quiet and get out!

I’m not proud of that moment but I must say it was effective. They’ve both gone off to run some errands and it’s blessedly quiet around here.
