Post Kirby time is shaping up to be pretty ordinary. I had to go have blood drawn yesterday for routine stuff like thyroid and cholesterol tests; I take this as a sign I’m getting to a certain age where everything starts to fall apart. It was a fasting blood test so I needed to get there pretty early in the morning and Ben had some sort of lame work commitment so Sam had to come with me.
Blood is drawn at hospitals around here; anonymous, inefficient, confusing, etc. And I was hungry and caffeine free which isn’t preferable when combined with a bored child. I expected a short wait; I didn’t expect it to be more than an hour. It would have been better had we been able to wander the halls but we had to stay close so we could hear them call my name. All medical waiting areas should be forced to use the restaurant beeper system. Sam entertained the people in the waiting room by rearranging the chairs and using me as a jungle gym.
Sam was pretty nonplussed about seeing them stick a needle in my arm; it didn’t even rate a kiss to make it better so maybe I should have cried or something. He was also nonplussed about the loss of Kirby but I digress. They gave HIM stickers on the way out and I rushed us home for coffee and sanity.
Ben is distracted by severe tooth pain. Every now and again he screams out in pain when his teeth accidentally touch. He called the dentist and was prescribed codeine for his trouble which made him amusingly loopy while it did little to control the pain. I’m guessing there is a root canal in his near future.
Now, to change the tone of things over the past few days, I’m going to list some good things that are happening or have happened. Everyone needs a bit of good news every now and then.
My mom is going to be here for the weekend, a quick trip post prime leaf peeping season on Vermont.
Freecycle rocks! It’s a website that links people looking to get rid of stuff with people who want stuff. Last week I got rid of a couple of rolling garbage cans (had about 20 emails about those) and today I listed the dog crate and bed and have received 4 requests for them so far. I can post it, say they have to pick it up now and the stuff is out of my life forever. So much easier than a garage sale and we don’t have to lug it anywhere. I bet a lot of the stuff goes to people who then turn around and sell it but I don’t really care about that. I’ve done first come first served so far but wonder if it would be ethical to sift through them and decide who sounds the most worthy.
I found $11 in a parking garage. And yup, I’m spending it on me.
Our floor is now dog pee free!
I cleaned my desk at work; it amuses me that it scares everyone and makes them wonder if I’m leaving.
Sam’s Halloween costume is nearly complete. I’ve even started a post about it that I haven’t finished. I’m sure the costume and the post will both be masterpieces.
Ben’s still loopy from the drugs so perhaps I’ll have entertaining stories to tell in the near future.
