More disjointed thoughts

Composed with a screeching kidlet on my lap to make it even more disjointed.

Paul McCartney was on NPR when I was driving to yoga class. When did he begin sounding pompous? Perhaps he’s been trying to top John Lennon when he said that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. He also said that critics always gun for him and had said that one of his songs, I can’t remember which, was banal. The only reason that comment stood out is because I hate the word banal, probably because it describes much of what I write.

Moving along to other banal topics, let’s try cooking this time. I made lemon pepper cookies for the second time this weekend and is also the second time I’ve been asked for the recipe. Easy, tasty and delicious. What more can you ask?

Lemon-Black Pepper Cookies

400°F Oven 7-10 minutes

Cream:
1 c sugar
1 c softened butter
zest of 5 lemons + 1-2 T lemon juice

Add and mix until nice and fluffy: 2 egg yolks

Mix these together then add to the butter mixture:
1 ¼ c flour
1 c corn meal
¾ t freshly ground black pepper
pinch salt

Roll into tiny balls (about 5/8” diameter) and place on BUTTERED cookie sheet. Tamp down with the sugar coated bottom of a glass. Bake until edges are lightly browned.

Since it appears I’m in a domestic mood at them moment and several of you have agreed that there is something compelling about clean cabinets although you seem rather less worried about us dying from leaking gas than I’d expected. At any rate, I’ve decided to post some pictures of my favorite part of the reorganization for you to envy. Vertical racks and the space to put them both rock!

Umm . . . EXCUSE ME! Did you not notice that SOMEONE was worried about your gas leak and the dire potential danger posed by said condition?! Give me credit where it's due!

Oh, and before I forget, Paul McCartney is a talentless banal hack and a pompous ass - and he always has been. Take THAT, Hal!

Gee, I seem to be in a fiesty mood tonight - spent the whole day (yes, I did!) wrapping Christmas presents, and now I want to punch someone. Sir Paul will do quite well!

I have total vertical cabinet organization envy.

Heh..funny, I was thinking, I should say something about the gas leak, but for some reason, I didn't. But...I'm glad you caught it!

One thing that I did notice about your cabinets is, you still have a tray from GORDO's!!!!

beth....wrapping christmas presents?? when did you have time to buy said presents? i have exactly two in my closet, which will be getting packed sometime this week...note the time...i have not had but one decent night's sleep in over a week. fear of moving absolutely sucks...and when i read the gas story, i absolutely cringed...how very scary. sorry, was gone to london to see the queen for a week, and just got caught up.

Beth - I did notice but you were out commented two to one. But thank you for your concern. And think about the potential $$ saved by not having to pay for the leakage as well.

I never listen to interviews with musicians/artists/etc because it often decreases my opinion of their work. Hey, PM writes catchy little tunes that stick in your head and I never expected more of him and now that I've heard him I'm surprised he even did that.

Lisa TV - I knew you'd be jealous! LOL

Seester Lisa - Yes, I still have a Gordos tray and I still use it! Maybe this year I'll have to see if Sam can take it down a snowy hill just to reinforce its origin.

Phyllis - When are you moving? Beth told me you bought a new place.

btw...the cookie sound interesting. The lemon together with the pepper is good?? I'd like to make them, but...I hate having to produce so much lemon zest.

Even Sam liked the lemon cookies WITH pepper -- he dissed my peanut butter cookies for lemon ones. You can't actually tell there is pepper in there by flavor although of course you can see it.

And yup, it's a lot of lemon zest but you can make lemonade with the lemons...

Oh, and it's a lot easier if you have the right tool. These microplane graters are terrific. http://us.microplane.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4 Sam was using ours this morning to plane off the edge of the counter. I don't recommend this use.
