Tonight I was reading Sam his current favorite library book “Fix It Duck” by Jez Alborough and there is a page that has “SMASH” written out and out of curiosity I asked him the letters and he accurately identified all the letters. I was inordinately excited about this. I know he can identify some letters but this was the first time he identified all the letters in a word for me. In my mind I jumped the gun thinking “he can read!” when of course I know he’s not even close to that but it was exciting just the same. I tested him later when we came to “SPLASH!” although he called the exclamation point an “i” so I suppose it doesn’t really qualify.
We read three books and I tucked him in for the evening.
Me: What are you going to dream about?
Sam: Big things! Trains and airplanes. (He says this every night)
Me: Are you going to dream about letters?
Sam: I don’t dream about little things.
It’s not worth expending nighttime brainwaves to those little insignificant letters.

I loved his answer. Dream big, Sam. Dream big!
That is soooo cute!! I knew that kid was smart. :-)
He is so sweet and so quick. Just like his Mom.
