Holiday baking photos

You may remember that I'm trying to perfect lemon meringue pie. Appetizing?

I'm not sure if it's going to hold up until tomorrow because after I baked it I noticed a small hole where it may not have been sealed completely but fresh out of the oven it looks fabulous. I also used a slightly different technique and beat the meringue for less time so success is NOT guaranteed. If it totally collapses, I have my backup pie, pumpkin of course, since it's a classic and Ben's favorite too.

Sam and I went to a gingerbread house making party yesterday and made a lovely one. You may notice its rather slap-dash pizzaz and the extra "snow." I think the house was built in the time it took for Sam to eat a half-pound of candy; in other words about 2.5 seconds.

Tonight we're having friends over for fondue and too much sherry and then we're going to see if we can make it absolutely impossible for Sam to fall asleep in anticipation of the morning. Ok, not really. He's not so clear what'll happen tomorrow morning and that doesn't break my heart.

Tomorrow we're bringing dinner to my in-laws house and hope that Seward is doing well enough that he can join us for the entire meal.

I hope everyone has wonderful plans with friends and family for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Merry Christmas everyone!

I'd like to know if the pie held up until the next day. It looked terrific! I was making apple pie and had a "lost my train of thought" moment, dumping the water in with the rest before I'd combined the flour and crisco. Well, I just tilted the bowl and mixed as little as I could before letting the rest of the water back in. The crust looks flaky as all get out, probably because of the super rapid combo time!

The pie held up ok, but not perfectly. There was a tiny bit of weeping but not as much as the other pies I've made and it deflated a bit but the peaks stayed peaky. The pie has been consumed in its entirety so I guess it was good - I didn't have any because it's not my fav.

So how was your pie? As long as it looked flaky I bet it WAS flaky and terrific.

So who was "weeping" that your pie didn't hold up perfectly?!
