I can't smell mildew or mold either although my nose is now full of the smell of construction dust but there is nothing obvious staring at us. I'm at a loss. I have no idea where this smell is coming from but it continues to drive me totally insane.
We're leaving the holes open for awhile to see if the smell will rear it's ugly head, er, stench when the dust clears but now I'm at a total loss. The guys were kind enough not to call me a crazy addled woman to my face but I'm beginning to feel that way. Imaginary stench? I think not. We've looked behind the plumbing as much as possible and now we've gone behind the walls and we're still mystified. I have no idea where to go next.
I did notice that there is a bit of a breeze coming from the hole which makes me wonder about the possibility of condensation problems but again, I think I'd smell it if it was growing in there. Where is this smell coming from?
Ack! What the heck is happening here?

hmmm....aggravating!! But remember, it's not just you who has been smelling the mildew. The builder smelled it, and Ben smells it too, right? And where there is mildew, there is stench!! Did they already check the roof, where the new part of the house meets the old? Can't remember if you told us.
If it's not in the walls or the plumbing it seems like it must be in the ceiling or the floor...
Renee, we had the ceiling out for about 6 weeks this summer and it's on the second floor so if there was something going on with the floor we'd probably see it below. It's driving me nuts!
And builder agreed he smelled something although he's not certain what it is. Ben doesn't smell it. Other dude associated with the builder smell it too. No one can find it.
