I feel like sleeping for days and days

I thought that now that it's finally getting warmer around here I'd really want to be outside, enjoying the sunshine, cleaning the winter detritus from the yard, enjoying the flowers beginning to peek their brave little leaves from the ground. Instead, I feel the need to sleep and sleep and sleep. Perhaps it's sympathetic insomnia for my sister and her newborn, perhaps I can't turn off my brain, maybe the allergies the wind is kicking up are enough to keep me from sleeping but whatever the reason, I feel totally sleep deprived at all times. As noon rolls around I feel the need to nap which is impractical and boring.

I'm fighting it. Yesterday Sam and I walked down to the park for an Easter egg "hunt" in the freezing windy cold. There was face painting, people dressed in moose and dog costumes (mascots for some cause or other), free balloons for the kiddies, and of course, the main event, the Easter egg "hunt." Of course I forgot my camera. Picture a field about 1/3 of an acre. Picture a hundred or so two and three year olds straining against their parents to run out and get the eggs before the official countdown. Five four three two ONE! The eggs are all gone within a minute and I'm sure there were at least 1000 plastic eggs hidden in plain sight. Sam managed to find about 10, only half of which were filled with jelly beans, the others had perfectly sized choke toys for the two year olds. What were they thinking?

Sam was very excited by the whole outing and wasn't overly upset when all the jelly beans I'd helped him extract from the plastic eggs spilled out of his coat pocket while he was playing on the slide. Don't tell him but that was my plan from the start. Ben took him out for a couple of hours in the afternoon so I could enjoy sweet solitude in my OWN HOUSE (being alone in the house is a very very rare experience since Sam came along) and while they were out and about he bought more jelly beans so my sugar reduction plan was foiled in a very unexpected way.

Speaking of Easter, in a fit of bad planning, I'm going to be away on the fateful day because I scheduled my trip to see my sister and her family without checking a calendar. Ben is only upset because he doesn't think he can get Sam to say "He is risen!" when he gets up in the morning so my plan is to call him from Arkansas and wake him up just to make sure he gets to hear the insincerity in my voice as I speak the fated words. I'm disappointed I'll miss it but I'm sure Sam will be so excited he won't even notice I'm not around. The Easter Bunny is still debating about what Sam should get but he has decided that this would be a good thing:

And I'm sure the Easter Bunny is NOT going to fill the umbrella with candy. But jelly beans are definitely on the agenda as well as a limited quantity of chocolates. Oh, and we can't forget bubbles to be spilled.

I think Sam isn't going to miss me in the least.

Love the umbrella. I've seen the matching wellies. Too cute.

It's interesting, I had a friend in high school who got easter presents (not just a basket o' candy, which is all I got if I was lucky) and I thought that was unique to her family. Maybe it's a regional thing?

My sister and I always got a basket of candy and a stuffed toy rabbit for Easter. And, of course, new spring dresses to wear to church under our down jackets and boots!

The umbrella is adorable - did you get it for him?

We mainly got candy, I don't remember presents but it's possible I have a faulty memory. Sam isn't getting a lot of gifts, he's getting things I'd planned to get for him anyway...the umbrella, some bubble stuff and construction paper, to go with the candy.
