Apparently letter order and location makes no difference, any combination and direction of the letters spells "Sam."
I didn't even notice he was doing it until yesterday when he was at our neighbor's house playing with sidewalk chalk and something that looked vaguely like a backwards "S" appeared. That was followed by an "M" somewhere below and and "A" next to the "M." This morning at school he drew me a picture of something he said was a train so I asked him to sign it for me. Letter order this time was "M", then "S", and an "A."
See, now I can crow about my kid's superiority when the real reason he can "write" his name is because we didn't name him Susamar Rudby-Aejn Rajagopal.

ROFL! Better save that name for your next kid!
(I updated my link - works again)
Regardless of an easy name, it is pretty impressive that he can get the letters right even if they aren't in the right order. I know his mother could do that too at his age.
