We're heading to Cape Cod. Today. We made the plans yesterday. Such planners. Last night was a flurry of packing and preparation. It's going to be a quick trip; we'll leave tonight and come back on Friday. I'm really looking forward to a little beach time. I think Sam is going to be thrilled with the ocean, particularly since the ocean will be shared with his cousins.
The bathroom renovations are plugging along but now we need to make a decision. We went from having a skylight in the dining room on Friday -- a view of the upstairs bathroom window but I did like the extra light -- to having a ceiling again on Saturday. Granted it needs to be taped and mudded but I'm not in a big rush for that. Perhaps a fall project?
Ben also put the new subfloor in the bathroom and as I looked at the pristine new subfloor I had a creeping thought that both thrilled and horrified me. We should put down hardwood. As background, when Ben pulled up the old floor there was hardwood under several layers of other stuff so hardwood is not new to this bathroom. He said it was in good condition, especially since it had been there for more than 80 years. The entire house is hardwood except for three rooms that have tile in the addition.
I did a bit of research on this and reviews are mixed. If we did it, we'd put down the wood, sand it (we wouldn't need to rent the big monster sanders since the space is only 5x6) and put layer after layer of poly on it to seal it up nicely. Still, there is the possibility that there would be seepage and boy spillage but I'm not sure that is much different than any other type of flooring. Seepage would mean a new ceiling in the dining room but we know we can do that because we've aready done it. The previous owners did it too.
We've already ordered the other flooring, a laminate, but it would need to be replaced in about 15 years, wood would last about forever if we're careful. I hope.
We have to make a decision soon because the other stuff is supposed to be installed about a week and a half from now. If we go with hardwood, we do the entire floor. If we don't, we put in the vanity prior to putting down the flooring. Either way, I've got to finish the painting.

If there's a way to really dump a lot of polyurethane on the hardwood, go for it!
I thought you were going to the Cape on Wed, and I was gonna see if you wanted to have lunch today. Dang it!

If you put a ridged shower door on the tub instead of a shower curtain you won't have nearly the chance of flooding the floor. It might make your decision easier. I know they make it harder to clean the tub but it might be worth it.
