Unsurprising yet miserable

The bathroom project has moved to a standstill. Ben had taken out the fixtures and moved the electrical stuff over the course of several weeks. I spent about two weeks painstakingly doing wall repair. The patching required was impressive and time consuming. It was cloudy and overcast the entire time so I spent a lot of time with a flashlight trying to find the rough spots. On Friday, I did the final sanding, cleaned, taped and primed. And of course found a couple of spots that weren't sufficiently smooth.
I think Ben allocated about two days to the whole patching and painting process because he never does this type of work and has no clue how long it takes to do it somewhat properly. Oh, and he hadn't quite finished what he was doing and fixing that little bit requires...more spackle and sanding. Urgh! Yesterday he was anxious to start tearing out the subfloor to prepare for the installation of the new flooring so even though I was almost to a point where I was ready to do the satisfying part of painting, the actual painting, I gave him the go ahead.

And guess what he found? Rot. OF COURSE. We knew there was some, we didn't know the subfloor under the tub was rotten and needs to be replaced. Why is this so predictable though? What is the likelihood the repair is going to mess with the tile? I'm guessing 100%.

We're going to try to do the majority of the work though the ceiling of the dining room. That ceiling already needs to be replaced because of leaking from above that I've always attributed to the incorrectly installed bathroom flooring that allowed any water spashed on the floor to roll under the floorboards because they didn't bother to pull up the baseboards when they did the flooring. I imagine we'll be replacing some joists while we're at it.

Timeline delayed once again. We have to finish by fall or we can't turn on the heating system since we had to drain the radiators.

One of the flooring layers in the bathroom was maple hardwood, just like the rest of the house. Too bad the floor wasn't in wonderful condition.
I've also realized how spoiled we are by having two bathrooms. Why is it that every time Ben or I have to pee Sam has it pee RIGHT THIS SECOND?

Well that sounds like good motivation.

Of *course* there's rot! Silly you - you should never have pulled up the old floor. If you'd just tiled right over it, you could be almost done by now!

I've been scraping paint off the porch. Boring! But not as bad as taping and sanding.
