I have been commanded to post!

I had dinner with Beth, Phyllis, and Cindy tonight and Beth and Phyllis are regular readers of this blog and they pressured me to post so here it is, heading to ll pm, and I'm dutifully putting fingers to keyboard in an attempt to deliver.

While we were at Beth's house talking, all of a sudden the shade flipped up and the curtain fell to the floor proving that Beth's house is haunted by a clumsy ghost. This incident started a round of tales of things that go bump in the night (or moo in Cindy's case) and had I been able to get a word in edgewise I would have told this story then and had nothing to post.

Several years back I dreamt that our doorbell rang in the middle of the night and I sneaked down the stairs to check it out. I was uneasy but didn't see anyone so I opened the door and as I opened it, a man sprung out at me and grabbed me. I woke up with a start and a rapidly beating heart but eventually calmed down and went back to sleep. I told Ben about the dream the next morning because it stuck with me a bit.

A few days later, in the middle of the night, the doorbell rang! For real! I nudged Ben "This is just like in my dream!" He responded "that's not reassuring", groaned, and snuck downstairs to check it out. I'm sure he was just as uneasy as me but when he looked out, he saw our cat Mo sitting in the middle of the porch instead of a crazy man ready to attack.

So, did Mo figure out how to ring the bell? You decide.

There is only one other time I remember being woken up by the doorbell in the middle of the night and that was when I'd had a phone conversation with a boyfriend who lived in a different state, then went to bed. He decided to call again in the middle of the night (not unusual for him) and when the phone just rang and rang, he called the police because he thought something had happened to me. It was NOT reassuring to have police knocking at my door in the middle of the night. My phone rang and rang -- for some reason it wasn't working and I was extremely irritated to have to get up and go out and find a payphone to call him so I could yell at him for scaring the crap out of me. No good deed goes unpunished....

Thank you for posting! I love your doorbell story!

Sadly, Phyllis and Cyndi just left. But it was a wonderful visit - I'm so glad they came.

Somehow I think the midnight caller must've been that food science guy we met in Chicago. Was it? I don't know why that sounds like him, but it does.

Thanks for the new post. It was a fun night...but you didn't try the jello, did you?

Beth, yup you're right.

Phyllis, nope, no jello. Driving home and working for the same division that does the drunk driving program means I need to be extra careful. Besides, someone always wakes me up early. It was fun to see you...come on back any time!
