Picture day!

Today is picture day at Sam’s school. We had almost no warning that it was happening so I didn’t go out and look for an outfit that would make him look good – this year it’s going to be a true representation of Sam’s appearance. This picture will reflect the following:

  • Snotty nose from the cold that started yesterday. I do think the teachers will make sure his nose is wiped but there are no guarantees there won’t be a snot bulge coming out of his nose or some dried crusties somewhere on his face.
  • Scrape on the chin from direct contact with the milk crates used for balance during his skating lesson on Saturday.
  • White spots from the four recent scabs on his forehead thanks to being on the losing end of a tussle with some playground equipment.
  • A red tee shirt with a pocket, likely with snot spots by the time the picture is taken.
  • Gray sweatpants with white strips on the side because he refused to wear anything but “comfortable pants.” I don’t blame him for this though; I wish I could wear sweatpants to work.
  • White socks. I debated, do I hand him red socks to match his shirt? Then I realized there was no way I could keep him from wearing his
  • Green Croc (o’shits) and those in combo with the red socks were too much to contemplate in the morning. The Crocs, which are now less than a week old, are already missing some material at the end of the toes because he likes to use his shoes as brakes when he’s on his bike. They don’t seem to hold up to that abuse as well as the standard sneaker.

Now, I’d have liked to have the lovely fantasy picture of my handsome little boy in his Sunday best but the truth is, he doesn’t have a Sunday best outfit because we never do anything where we need to dress up. Maybe the real life picture will be better though, as long as he looks happy.

This should be quite a picture!

I think the solution is for you to take a GOOD picture of him yourself, if there is ever a day when he doesn't have a cold and multiple bruises!
