Because I am thankful for all sorts of things. Friends, family, health, happiness, etc. Oh, and pie, always pie. Pumpkin and blueberry this year.
Now, in order to make this about ME I'm going to blame my lack of a Thanksgiving post on the most recent events here in TouchOfChaos Land. Yesterday Ben headed out to keep the world safe from Bambi and a few hours later I got a call.
Ben: Do we have a hot water bottle?
Me: Um, I think so, why?
Ben: Well, I fell and my lower back is bothering me.
Given that exchange, I figured he was a little bruised so I hauled out the ibuprofen and the hot water bottle so he could find it when he got home. Later:
Ben, standing on the porch: I have a strange favor to ask.
Me: ???
Ben: Will you please unzip my boots for me? I can't bend over.
After I bowed down to his boots he shuffled in like an arthritic 95 year old man with added moans and grimaces for effect. The evening was spent with him in various unusual postures of supposed, but very awkward-looking, comfort on the couch. He stayed up watching bad movies but when I woke up at 3:30am I still heard noise downstairs. Turns out that he'd made a trip to the emergency room because the pain was so bad. They gave him Dilaudid and a muscle relaxant and told him he'd likely be miserable for a few days but it doesn't look as though he's done any permanent damage.
He is miserable, but he's pretty happy about it at the moment. Call him if you're looking for a quick laugh. Be sure to ask him if 8 hours has passed since he last took his muscle relaxant...

Oh, ouch! My brother did something to his back while we were visiting over Halloween. He was trying to center the *heavy* new entertainment center beneath the screen for the *huge* protection tv (boys and their toys). He spent the rest of the day either lying on his stomach with a heating pad on his back or crawling around like an, well, I don't even know, an arthritic raccoon? Fortunately it was also nothing serious or permanent. Here's hoping Ben heals fast.
