Martin Luther King Day

I mentioned offhand to Sam that he wasn’t going to daycare because it was Martin Luther King day.

“What is Martin Luther King day?”

“It’s a day in honor of Martin Luther King, a man who worked to make sure that all people are treated the same.”

“Why?”

“Well, there are some people who think that people who don’t look like themselves aren’t as good as they are.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know Sam. They just do. Do you remember the Sneetches? “The Star-bellied Sneetches had bellies with stars. The Plain-bellied Sneetches had none upon thars.” Were the Star-bellied Sneetches any better than the Plain-bellied Sneetches?”

“Oh, they are all the same.”

“Exactly!”
