Another reason Sam needs to be a kid for a lot longer

My birthday was last week. I generally like to forget about my birthday so when Ben said he wasn't feeling well on my actual birthday I was happy with rescheduling the whole thing. On Saturday Ben planned to make dinner and a German chocolate birthday cake....double duty since Saturday was also Valentine's Day.

The cake had some technical difficulties in that the layers never set up while baking. Oops! Ben saved the day by mixing the frosting with the cake good to make a German chocolate pudding. Unfortunately, after dinner things fell apart a bit and we never did the candles/singing thing. We never ate the "pudding" either although I offered some to Sam and he refused.

Last night Sam asked "When are we doing to have your birthday?" When I explained that my birthday was done he protested the cakelessness of it all. If there is no cake is there no birthday? And if there is no birthday am I not one year older?

But what amused me most was that he then went on to tell me "I don't want a birthday like yours!"

Sam is right. There must be cake. You need a "do-over."
