A very small town

Yesterday Sam and I headed up the street to find out if our neighbors wanted to come outside to enjoy the relatively fine weather. When we got there, they waved us in and told me there was a round table discussion with our current Mayor in preparation for the upcoming election. Sam went upstairs to play with the kids; I got to sit and listen to the Mayor being grilled by my neighbors. They were comparatively gentle and since I'd missed part of the discussion, I didn't pipe up with some of the more controversial things that had happened over the past couple of years. Overall, I was happy with what he said.

It's a normal Vermont happening though, just like having the former Governor on our street to pick up my neighbor's kid for some sporting event or another. I have email conversations with our City Councilor; I used to see the former mayor outside his house, shirtless, in the morning as I walked to work. Senators participate in division advisory meetings, a former co-worker is now a state representative.

Small town? Yes. But I feel as though I belong here.
