I was thinking back to Sam's first year. They year where he catnapped during the day, usually for less than 30 minutes at a time and work up at the slightest jostle. He didn't sleep through the night until he was about 16 months. Before that he was awake awake every couple of hours. Naps were an exercise in futility because it would take longer for him to go to sleep than he'd actually sleep so my frustration level was extremely high.
His current sleep patterns are a long way from perfect but we've come a long way. If he sleeps in for an extra half hour in the morning it takes an extra hour for him to get to sleep at night. If he for some terrible, horrible, no good, very bad reason falls asleep during the day he'll be awake until 11 pm.
But look at him while he sleeps. I love to check on him before I go to bed and when I do I see this:
Or this:
Or even this:
Each night it's a little different but it's all better than way back when.

very cute!
where did the old doll come from?
Hee hee. That's great! Yes, I remember spending half an hour getting him to sleep for a nap, only to have him wake up 10 minutes later. That was when he was like a year old, I think, but I know those early days were rough!!
The old doll belonged to Ben when he was a baby!
And Lisa, that was his whole napping career. I'm so glad I don't need to worry about that any longer. If I remember correctly, it was no picnic to get Abbie to sleep either.
