The quick trip to Maine

The grape made its maiden road trip this weekend; 38.4 mpg according to the instruments. Not bad!

We were off to go see Ben's aunt and uncle, just a very quick how-do-you-do trip as Ben's uncle isn't doing well.

Sam was able to do a little fishing (no fish were harmed in the process) and swimming in the lake while we were there.

The hotel was a hit of course. There was a pool that was used, of course, in 65 degree cloudy weather.

We made the best of of our short time there and snuck in a trip to see the WW&F Railway Museum. They have an old steam engine and various cars on a two foot gauge track all laid by volunteers in an effort to restore the track. They have work weekends every year where they lay several hundred more feet of track.

This is the engine that pulled our train.

The whole place is run by volunteers and they're enthusiasts.

They love this train.

The boys loved this train.

Impressively steamy and loud! Sam kept his hands over his ears whenever the whistle blew.

We stopped to check out Bates where Ben did a good portion of his undergraduate degree. The campus was very quiet but for some reason we ran into Mao's jacket there.

Sam's verdict on the overall weekend?

Too much driving!

Sam looks really OLD in that photo with Ben! He looks like he's 8 or 9.

Nice mileage. Go grape!

The Grape is a Honda Fit. A cute littl ething. We were in Damariscotta and that general vicinity. Ben's Aunt and Uncle have a place on the lake. Beautiful area although we didn't linger. Drove up Sat. morning and were back home Sun. evening.
