Sam's been bringing home lists of words that he's supposed to sound out. He read the list to me in about 30 seconds flat. He's been working on writing things phonetically for awhile and I was enjoying his new found writing ability (and the notes, the very amusing notes).
Yesterday I went to the library and it occurred to me that he might be able to read a simple book so I picked up some very easy readers for him. On the way home he read one of the books! And then he read three more. Today we had to go back to the library to get a whole new set of books.
It's so exciting to see him take this step. It seems both huge and sudden. And he seems completely nonplussed by the whole thing.

That is awesome!
So what was the first book he read all by himself?!
I always thought that teaching a kid to read was like turning on a light. It so sudden and so wonderful. Good for Sam!
