Oh what a difference a month makes

Our friendly little street does things together. This week we had a pot luck for a former neighbor who was here for a quick visit...oh, it's a also a street with a lot of good cooks.

We've got a neighborhood garden we have named the "Adams Court Socialist Garden Experiment" and we've been working on it for more than a month now. Here it is on May 18.

Not much to see here. The lettuce has just started to come up and most things were still nestled snuggly in the compost enriched dirt. But we've got some lovely paths laid out.

But today! Today! It's beautiful! This is from a different angle but it's full of lush plants.

We've got squash and pumpkins, 40(!) tomato plants, pole beans, bush beans, one single soybean plant (we have no idea why the rest didn't come up). There are leaks and onions and scallions, beets, and many more things.

We are harvesting peas and lots and lots of spinach, chard, and lettuce.

Our potatoes are nearly shoulder high on Sam.

And we're enjoying the process. We get together on Sunday morning and plant, weed, chat, and watch the kids climbing on the rocks.

Now, if we could only use everything we grow....

We've almost eaten through our lettuce! But, we have two tiny tomatoes on the yellow pear plant--and a few flowers considering coming out on the Celebrity tomato and yellow bell plants. I don't know what to look for to know when the onions or leeks are done (I have books, I should read them). What am I going to do with all of these chives? Will the spinach ever grow up?

Gardening is surprisingly exciting!
