What's happening to my baby?

He's getting so big! Today was his 2 year check up and he's 36 1/2" (95th percentile) tall and weighs 30 lbs 5 oz (80th percentile)! They even do BMI at this age and I don't remember what it was but it was well within the normal range. Less than two years ago that he was 21" tall and 7 lbs 13 oz.

I am, however, somewhat suspicious of his height measurement since they're not using an overly scientific method to measure it. Lay down on the table, mark head and feet and measure the distance between them. Now think of trying to do that to a cat. Well, he wasn't quite that bad but I still doubt it's all that accurate.

Then we talked about stuff like discipline, toilet training, tantrums, and eating. Yup, the quadrumvirate (is that a word?) of toddler parenting nightmares. Of course as we discussed these things he was busy tearing the paper off the examination table. I ignored this and later the pediatrician later mentioned that was a good thing to do since he wasn't actually hurting anything. I felt as though I'd passed a test that I'd never signed on to take but at the same time I liked the kudos. It's funny that I felt that way though since I know I'm going to parent the way I parent no matter what he thinks.

No shots this time but he did have to have his toe pricked so they could take blood for a lead test. He didn't even flinch because he was holding on to a schoolbus that repeatedly played "The Wheels on the Bus." Ack! I wish he'd just sing it himself because he's so funny when he sings. Picture him singing "The Itzy Bitsy Spider" with the croak of a 5 pack a day smoker and you've about got it. Yes, I do need to get that on video, don't I?

Yesterday during Sam's nap I put Christmas lights on the front porch. I managed to maximize the tackiness of the lights. Sagging lights? Check. Huge multicolored bulbs? Check. Dead bulbs? Check. Unevenly centered? Check. There is a bonus broken light and I don't know if I've better off leaving the broken light up there (it's not totally broken off, there is just a small piece of glass broken out) or taking the bulb out entirely. They are so bright that I keep thinking a car is pulling into our driveway. But Sam was entranced when he saw these lights on the way home from the neighborhood Christmas party. Well worth the (minimal) effort of installing them. And I do plan to address at least the dead bulb issue. Eventually.
