We've been neglecting our buddies the frogpoles lately so today Sam and I made a jaunt to the frog pond to see how they were doing. He made sure to bring a train and some track that is in no way related to the train so both trackand train could take a little dip. The tadpoles have gotten huge (relative to their beginnings) and the tails are definitely becoming clear but there is no evidence of legs at this point. Frankly I'm surprised they don't since we're at about 27 days after egg day. A few of them are beginning to get a bit of frog color though.
But the pond was not limited to frogpole activity today. We saw several turtles and although I tried to take pictures, they're a little shy and I wasn't able to get anything interesting.
But things were exciting in other ways today - a frog calphony of croaks, this time the big old bullfrogs. And for your thrills and chills, I was even able to take some action shots of the mating rituals of bullfrogs. They appear to take a more athletic approach to mating than their smaller cousins and they weren't as numerous. Still, they were already leaving their slime behind. Don't worry, I won't be documenting their life cycle as I believe it would be a tad redundant.
Frog mating, rapidly growing frogpoles, lively turtles, what more could we ask for at our local neighborhood frog pond? How about a six pack of Hostess Mosquito Death Donuts?
