Well, we finally got an official diagnosis for Kirby. He had an ultrasound on Friday and he’s got bladder cancer and a growth on his liver. They give him six months to a year.
We have options: Chemotherapy – ah, no. We just aren’t going to do it.
Surgery isn’t advised because the tumors spread quickly any possible leakage can seed new tumors. We wouldn’t want to do it anyway.
Our strategy is going to be to keep him as comfortable as we can through non-invasive means. It’s likely he will get/already has bladder infections because of the constant irritation so he’ll be on antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory.
Poor pooch.

I am so so sorry. You are doing the right thing though..just keep him happy and comfortable as long as he seems to be enjoying life, and then the decision will just come to you. Best of luck, and give him a pat on the head for me.
I believe that you are doing to the right thing. My dog Stormy is covered with tumors and he is going to the vet Monday and I think he has cancer. He is 14 yrs old and we will probably let him just live his life to the fullest.
Yes, as long as he seems happy we'll keep doing what we're doing. He's about 12 years old and he's generally acted much younger. It's taking some time to come to terms with his mortality. And I didn't even want a dog!
Poor, poor Kirby. :-(
That's tough. I'm going through the same thing with my little buddy KC, he's 14 and has a growing stomach tumor that will eventually cause him to stop eating. It's really hard to see him get weaker but all we can do is remember the joy they have given us in their lifetime; let them go with dignity and make sure they do not have to suffer. Take Care
