Today during my lunch break I ran across the street to Baby Gap because I still haven't assembled a winter wardrobe for Sam. I rarely buy anything there; the only time I even consider it is when things are on sale.
Do you know what they're showing for toddlers this year? Loose cut jeans! I'm not sure if they're supposed to slide halfway down their diaper for the full effect but I already have trouble keeping Sam's pants up and he's not even a skinny little guy! Are these pants a reaction to the increasing number of overweight babies? If that's the reason, I'm doubly amused by their use of Audrey Hepburn in the advertising for The Gap's skinny black pant. Kids = fat, Adults = beanpoles? Ok, I'm actually annoyed by their use of Audrey Hepburn because it seems to me that she wouldn't have wanted to have her name associated with marketing a product. Yeah, I know her so well.
But back to the toddler jeans. Not only are they showing loose cut jeans, they're doing them in distressed denim! If anyone can distress a pair of jeans efficiently, it's a toddler. I sometimes wonder if Sam can run further than 20 feet before he falls. I'm not buying pants that decrease the time between new and trash. I want pants with geekily-reinforced knees for longevity. Oh, and they need to be stainproof, soft, easy to put on and take off, and cheap. Any suggestions? I've been bombing on garage sales...if they've got boys pants they generally seem to have holes in the knees and that just proves my point 're pre-distressed jeans.
Needless to say, I didn't buy anything.

two words, Target, Kohls.
I doubt it has to do with overweight kids, you know how little kids fashion likes to mimmick teen fashion. Umm...wasn't it you who bought Abbie some low rise bell bottom jeans one time? I think it was. ;-) The WERE adorable.
No Targets in VT and I haven't yet gotten to Kohls but will check it out. To tell the truth I haven't had good luck there in the past.
And I don't remember bell bottoms for Abbie but I do remember difficult to clean impractical but adorable dresses....
There is a Target in Glens Falls (RIGHT next to Lake George)!
I can't find reinforce knees for the boy eiher. He's usually through them in a month or two, if I get him new jeans. I've taken to putting those iron on patches on the inside of the knees before he wears them, though sometime, the jeans just tear at the edges of the patch.
Oh, another suggestion. Look for a new friend who has a 3.5 year old boy. They will gladly give you all of their hand-me-downs lol
Sears used to make kids pants with reinforced pants for kids. They would replace them if a kid went through the knees before he outgrew them. I wonder if they still sell them.
That was reinforced knees. LOL
Mom
I was in Joann fabrics today (buying knitting stuff for a class I signed up for!), and saw iron-on (I think they were iron-on) patches. I seem to remember several pairs of jeans repaired (or were they PREpaired?) with iron-on patches from my childhood.
