My new favorite toy

My new panini grill!

I’ve wanted one for more than a year but finally got one last weekend. Since that time we’ve used it every single day.

Upsides: Chicken, mozzarella, pesto, and tomato panini. Egg, bacon, and cheese panini. Rosemary, salt, olive oil bread. Ham and swiss panini. Pancakes on the griddle.

The downside: Eggs and bacon on the griddle. Ben claims it’s not level so the eggs ran out the grease spout. The bacon spattered everywhere. I didn’t witness this myself so he may just be on a codeine-induced* daydream.

We’ve yet to try it for cooking things like pork chops or steaks but at this rate it’ll happen soon.

*Ben is scheduled for a root canal on Monday so you can feel sorry for him if you’d like. I'm still waiting for a really good story but here is a somewhat goofy one. He was going to write a letter to the editor about an invisbility cloak reported on in the Friday paper. He was going to point out that the technology is prohibited because it flies in the face of the Treaty of Algeron. You should be very glad to know that I had to look it up but it should frighten you that Ben knew this off the top of his head.** I don't know if his belief that a letter must be written was codeine-induced or just his warped sense of humor but I told him that if he was inclined to write this letter I'd be happy to publish it on the blog-he-does-not read.

**It frightens me that things such as this exist. Who are these people? Ben?

Um, Phyllis, you weren't supposed to point that out....

Sometimes you've just got to splurge.

Hey, that's pretty cool. Is it just a cool gadget, or are there some advantages over pan frying stuff? I suppose it's a bit faster, since it cooks both sides at once. Can you make waffles with it? They'd have a funky pattern

Silly Chuck, the campaign is for BEN to spend less!

I have tried to explain to Dicky what a panini is, but sadly he's never had one and can't really imagine how good they are. Do you make turkey, cheddar, and bacon, like Radio Deli makes? mmmmm!
