Oh, the silly things we do for our kids

Over the past two days I've gone to about ten stores looking for green socks for Sam. Luckily most were downtown and I enjoyed wandering around for awhile but I have two questions for merchants:

Why don't you carry socks for boys? There are tons of cute but non-green socks for girls out there but for some reason the boys section is amazingly sock-free. Are boys meant to run around barefoot all year around? Gotta teach them to be tough, right?

And what the heck? When did those little ankle socks become the only socks on the market? I found some green ankle socks that were somewhat girly but not so girly I thought Sam would care. Actually, now that I think about it I'd have to say that they weren't so girly I cared. Silly me. Alas, they were ankle socks and not appropriate for use with his hightops.

I finally found some green socks, two different styles no less, at Old Navy. He will be delighted when he sees them.

Why green socks? Well, Sam has taken to wearing green head to toe. We've got a pretty good selection of shorts and shirts in various shades of green (he'll wear a green long sleeve shirt with a green fleece vest instead of a non-green shirt some days) and if his underpants have even the slightest sploosh of green he's satisfied but alas, we have only two pairs of green socks. I do laundry often but not every day and tragedy struck this morning when one of the green socks disappeared into the great laundry void. Wearing non-green socks was NOT an option so he finally headed off to daycare with one green sock and and one white one.

I spent $3 on socks for my boy today and I'm sure it'll have a very high joy per dollar payback.

Maybe every purchase needs a joy per dollar rating...
