It's time once again for Farm Share 2007!

Check it out! There is pie. Let's just say it already doesn't look like the pie in the picture. Oh, and whole wheat really isn't the way to go for a wonderful pie crust. The insides are really good though.

I'm very much looking foward to the smoked mozzarella...mmmmm! No real mysteries this week. We've got beets, fennel, carrots, cabbage, brussel sprouts, a bag of frozen tomatoes (oops, forgot to pull them out for the picture but they look just like frozen tomatoes in case you were wondering) and a squash of some sort. Anyone know what type of squash it is? I'm feeling somewhat uninspired with these though...what shall I make for dinner tonight?

Google to the rescue. Epicurious suggests white bean, kale and roasted vegetable soup

which sounds interesting if a bit more work than I'd planned. I bet it would be good with a side of italian sausage...oh wait! I could add italian sausage!

Why follow a recipe if you don't have to anyway?

Later: The soup gets a big thumbs up modifed in the following ways - toss some of the fennel in with the veggies being browned, cook the whole squash and add all of it to the soup, brown a lb or so of sweet italian sausage then toss all the kale in there for a few minutes, toss all the other stuff in according to the directions then toss in an extra can of beans. It's a big batch and it's really tasty. Leftovers to freeze. I think it would be good poured over pasta and I may do that in order to get Sam to eat it.

I want another squash like that one, it's really good!

Does anyone have any favorite cabbage recipes?

Mmmmm...It's so good!

Your haul looks quite impressive. If I could trust myself to cook more regularly, I would love to do something like that.

Favorite easy cabbage recipe:

Saute chopped onion and chopped cabbage in butter until soft. Sprinkle with sugar and serve over egg noodles.
