Today, for the very first time in his life, Sammy sat on Santa's lap. OK, that's not quite accurate. Sam stood next to Santa while leaning as far away as possible. Look, photographic evidence!*
Santa is apparently quite hard of hearing so when he asked Sam's name, our boy became became Dan. So Dan told Santa he wanted "Henry" for Christmas which was news to us and a total mystery to Santa. Besides being hard of hearing, he also seems to be unaware of all the engines in Thomas the Train Engine's roundhouse of horrors. He made no additional requests which is a nice contrast to the extensive list I anticipate for next year when he really figures out the Santa thing.
We completed our downtown adventure with a ride on a cute little train that runs up and down Church Street. The three of us were crammed into a tiny little GREEN passenger car and Sam was thrilled to be poking our way down the street through the snow. He even saved his ticket.
At home Sam and I put up our tacky Christmas lights but this year we even remembered to buy replacement bulbs! A miracle. They're just as tacky this year but Sam loves them and they make me happy.
*The last time we subjected Sam to a large seasonal apparition was way back in 2005. See how much he enjoyed it? Does the fact that we love this picture mean we're cruel cruel parents?

I WANT A COPY OF THAT EASTER PICTURE!!!!
Jody and her (now ex-)husband had a great photo of him sitting on Santa's lap, back in the 1950s, looking miserable and crying. It was great. They hung it in their hallway at home.
Really GOOD picture of Sam and Susan - no point in hanging THAT anywhere. :-)
