Classy clothes

Ben's grandmother, Susan's mother, was born in Texas and he likes to stories about her shooting rattlesnakes from horseback. She married Robert Bartlett and they became missionaries in China. I never met them; Ben tells me they were very special people and he remembers them very fondly.

I suspect that some of the items in the dress up box belonged to Ben's grandmother at one time although some may have belonged to Susan when she was young. Susan, if you're reading this please let me know and I'll update this entry for you.

I love these reminders of a time past when people took more time with their appearance. I'm also glad I don't have to wear things like this on a daily basis purely from a comfort standpoint.
Look at this lovely hat. It's gorgeous! It does not, however, go with lavender fleece.

And these gloves! White leather up to the elbow with pearl buttons! Long black and long white gloves! Short little gloves too.

That's not all. I think this little hood must have come from China, perhaps from their missionary days. It's lovely and luxurious. Perhaps these other accessories are from that time period as well; I can't tell. Susan suggested giving the whole box of dress up items to Sam's school but I'm just not sure I should do that. These items have history, I just don't know what it is.

Don't donate them to the school - they will just get worn out very quickly. Maybe Sam and his friends can wear them when they play dress up at home.

and YOU should wear that purple hat!
