Many thanks

Happy Thanksgiving!

I've been mulling over the ways in which I am fortunate. I have very little to complain about despite my constant whining on this blog. We are all happy, healthy, and have everything we need here at the Casa de Touch of Chaos, and our extended families are doing fairly well too.

I'm trying to help Sam understand that we are very lucky, that there are so many who have very little, often not even necessities, here in our community and elsewhere. It's not a concept easy for him to understand as he has absolutely no perspective on the matter. While I don't necessarily want him to have to have first hand knowledge of the challenges many people face just to survive, I do want him to understand that we are lucky and we should share our good fortune with others. We talk about it, and about our responsibilities as people living in this community but it's a difficult concept for Sam to understand. He wants to know why people don't have enough food or heat or warm clothes and there is no easy answer to that question.

I'm hoping that practicing what we preach will help. We do the Meals on Wheels deliveries each month -- I hope the consistency of this will help get our message across. After our deliveries on Friday, we went to the grocery store and bought turkeys to bring to the food shelf. Sam was non-plussed by this although he did want to carry one of the turkeys.

Yesterday, while making pies for Thanksgiving dinner, I made an extra pumpkin pie to donate for a community dinner at a local restaurant. I hope that pie helps make someone a little happier tomorrow.

I also hope that I can remember to be grateful throughout the year, not just on days meant to cultivate that thought.

Be well everyone!
