Money Works!

A little while ago I wrote a post about giving Sam an allowance. It turns out that he's still very motivated by money. Very, very motivated by money.*

We've decided to turn it to our advantage for behaviour modification. Our first success was breaking him of the habit of immediately saying "What?" in response to everything we said to him. His response was a habit which we knew because if we just waited for about two seconds he'd answer our question or respond to our comment.

We told him that we'd give him $5 if he could go for a full day without a "What?" and $3 if he said it just once. He could collect just once, the first day he pulled it off.

It took about three weeks but now we are "What?" free and he is $5 richer.

This morning we set up a new challenge for him -- $5 for a day free of "butt", "poop", "pee", and other potty words. Yes, he's back in a real potty humor stage again, this time at the top of his lungs.

Anyone want to take any bets on how long it will take him to collect on this one?

*He has not spent a penny of his money either; he's saving it for some unknown thing. Ben told me "Well, he had to get something from you!"

My bet is that he will instantly refrain from potty mouth until he gets that five dollars! He's a smart kid!

Hhahhahaha. He also might develope some new annoying habits, just to see if you'll give him $5 to stop. ;-)
