Little Sammy Boo is turning into big Sammy Boo. Today is his last day of school, the last day he'll go to the place where he's been for daycare and preschool for the last five years. When he started he was a wee babe, about 9 months old. They've been good to him and he's enjoyed it there for the most part.
And now he's saying goodbye forever and moving on to the next phase of his life. Kindergarten! He's sad to be leaving and a bit nervous and a very excited about what's coming up. And I'm also a bit nervous and very excited about what's ahead. But it's bittersweet to watch my little boy move past the little boy years into a world that is more independent and less sheltered.
He'll do well.
I'll be fine.
But we don't have to like it.
They did a goodbye circle for him where all the kids were telling him they loved him. Very sweet. He requested at the end that everyone sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."
I gave the camera to Sam and let him take pictures of his school. I snuck in a couple of shots so he'd be in some of them.
The school. See the window with bars? That's where he caught me sneaking in his toys.
The side yard, where the little kids play.
The entrance, filled with umbrellas and strollers.
Flowers in the hallway.
Sam's cubby, right next to his good buddy Ronan. Alphabetical order seems to work for them.
Sam's family board. They were nailed into the walls so we didn't bring that home. I don't know who peeled off one of the pictures.
I have no idea? Hand puppet?
This made Sam laugh and laugh when he took the picture.
The big bad bin of "sun scream."
The blurry bin of cool building toys. Sam showed me a cannon he'd made.
He banished me to the loft so he could take my picture. Not the best angle.
The dead animal collection.
There were friends making art.
And friends building things.
The lonely chair where Sam will sit no more.
I don't know where he found this but he's a star! He also took pictures of his two best buddies.
Oh, and the refrigerator where he stored his lunch.
The dirt mountain where he dug and dug and dug.
The monkey bars where he does his monkey business. You can't tell here but he's going backwards!
And of course, the swings where he learned to fly.
Fly baby fly! But don't rush, okay?
