First day of kindergarten!
This boy was READY! He'd been counting down the days until school started. The press of kids and parents and teachers was a bit intimidating and he clutched our hands as though he was afraid he'd lose us but within minutes he was playing in his new classroom.
Were there tears? No, not on either side. We're all ready for him to move on to this new adventure. That isn't true of all kids though; there were heartbreaking sobs from one poor little girl in the hallway.
What did he remember about his first day? They had cheeseburgers and french fries for lunch! (I didn't expect them to have lunch since it was a half day ending at 11:30.) There was recess! There was a snack! And he drew a really cool picture of a helicopter.
Today there was pizza for lunch (American Flatbread - I should crash Thursday lunch!). With chocolate milk! And something fruit or vegetable like that I've forgotten because when there is pizza, why even think about other food? They played tag at recess. He saw Sophie twice! There was milk and juice for snack!
Apparently it's all about food and recess at this point. I can't get any details about what they're doing in the little time they've actually spent in the classroom although he did mention that he didn't get to read when he wanted to read. They're breaking them in slowly with a three day week of half days.
It's hard to be sentimental about this change...we were all ready. But I'm already pining for the consistent hours and days of daycare.
