Sam isn’t the type to burst into song at the drop of a hat. His mother, that would be me, is tone deaf with little appreciation for music in general. His father can sing but very rarely does. Please note that there is evidence of extensive singing in his father’s past life including time in a cover band with a collaborating picture showing Ben and fellow band mates replete with big hair and leather pants. I MUST find that picture and scan it for our entertainment.
There have been two recent exceptions to Sam’s general lack of interest in singing. Ben began to sing a, variation of “La Donna è mobile” from Verdi’s Rigoletto with somewhat modified lyrics:
Sponge Bob è mobile
Patrick al vento
Ah yes, that fickle Sponge Bob. It was very strange when, out of the blue, Sam started singing it at top volume. We were serenaded for one day and haven’t heard it since. He absolutely will NOT repeat it on demand so alas, there is no video history.
The other time we hear singing, or something somewhat like singing with the addition of squawking, shouting, random noises, and sound effects, is when he’s in the bathroom. This is entertaining at home but gets even more amusing when we’re elsewhere. Last night we were having dinner at my mother in law’s house with my sister in law, Ben’s aunt, and her granddaughter when Sam started with his bathroom theatrics.
I don’t think he could hear us laughing. I take that back, I think he could hear us given how well we could hear him but I suspect he was paying no attention to the snorts of laughter from the other room.

Yes, you must find that photo!
And it's funny, because Dicky and I were talking about Ben's musical past just the other day, and we were trying to remember the name of his band. What the heck was it?!
