At the end of each session of Sam's art class the teacher asks the parents to come in and each student presents a selection of his or her artwork to the group then people are given an opportunity to ask questions of the artist. Sam presented this:
My first reaction? Shock! What is going on here? Why are there swords coming out of his chest?
Sam said that the man is swallowing swords which is a bit of a relief but it still doesn't really explain why there are swords popping out of his chest...or being thrust into his chest?
Today he explained that the yellow things are dials and the gray thing is holding a "5000 lb rock" that is going to drop on the man's head.
Should I stop letting him watch "Tom and Jerry?" Or perhaps he's just on his way to becoming the next serial murderer.
It wasn't very reassuring to see this although it is pretty creative. Yet another sword swallower but this time on stage.
Not every piece had swords though. Here is his bust. I particularly like the cheeks on this guy.
He's got a Dr. Suess-inspired sculpture too but he claims he doesn't know what this is, he just felt like making it.
And then there is the faceless box. One of the parents mentioned to one of the kids that the boxes reminded him of a Canopic chest used by the ancient Egyptians for storing organs. Perhaps Sam is planning on using this to store the organs of Lola.
Sam loves this class. I love that he loves this class. But the big question is what do we do with all his completed projects?
