How do you know someone is from Vermont?

A friends mother was describing someone. "She looks like she's from Vermont."

How can you tell by looking?

"She was wearing big shoes!"*


*In case this doesn't make sense to you, consider that everyone in Vermont looks as though they'd have the ability to hike up a mountain at any time. This requires substantial footwear. I don't think most of the Dansko/Tivo/Keene etc. footwear seen on the street is really mountain appropriate but we're a tough people. Once I saw a barefoot man hiking up Camels Hump. We won't mention the beer in his hand. Those two things may be related....
