I’ve been telling Sam that the carpenter ants are eating our house even though it’s not technically accurate but it does seem to fascinate him so I’ll go with it. Then I told him that the bug man was coming to take care of the carpenter ants and somehow those two facts combined in his head and came out “The bug man is coming to eat our house.”
The bug man spent a bit of time wandering around the outside where he saw some of the nasty critters but couldn’t see where they were coming into the house. He sprayed around the perimeter of the house and now we’re supposed to watch for drunken ants wandering around – that’s a good sign to a bug man. In theory, we should see no more ants in two weeks but if we do, we get to have the bug man come back and eat our house once again.

I think carpenter ants DO eat your house - unfortunately, that's pretty accurate!
I think we have them too, in the mudroom (back porch). And we aren't going to get a chance to rebuild it this year, either...
