Sam told me that he wants to be a cowboy for Halloween and at first I was celebrating the ease of that since we have that fringey vest that belonged to Sarah, a cowboyish hat, a toy gun and holster, and some rubber cowboy boots so I thought I was good to go. Sorry, that would be much too easy! Apparently in SamWorld, the vest is the wrong shade of brown, it's too dark and besides (don't you know anything Mom??) cowboys don't wear fringe.
Off we went to find vest material; he picked light brown fleece. Ok, true confessions, I steered him to fleece first because it doesn't require hemming but it will work as long as he doesn't complain about how it sticks to everything else he's wearing. A vest though, that shouldn't be too difficult, right? Certainly easier than the year of the purple dragon or the green shark.
But of course that isn't all because cowboys need RED bandannas; the blue bandanna he got at a pirate party is absolutely wrong.
If I'm a glutton for punishment, I could point out that cowboys wear chaps. I've got enough fabric...
So, I wonder if they'll let him bring his toy gun to school? Why does it amuse me to contemplate this question when I surely already know the answer?
